Daily Centering with Christ

The history of the Church [The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints] . . . is replete with the experiences of those who have struggled and yet who have remained steadfast and of good cheer as they have made the gospel of Jesus Christ the center of their lives. This attitude is what will pull us through whatever comes our way. It will not remove our troubles from us but rather will enable us to face our challenges, to meet them head on, and to emerge victorious. Thomas S. Monson, Be of Good Cheer, General Conference April 2009

The beginning of this week and the ending of this week were completely different. At the beginning of the week, I was distracted and focused only on what I needed to accomplish for the day. As the first two days passed by, my days were becoming worse and worse. This was only a mental and emotional worsening. I could not explain why I was in the doom and gloom. I was missing Archer more since it was the 4th of July. Wednesday came and I was slowly becoming more miserable. In the afternoon, Heidi and I went to the Temple. While I was there my angst began to subside and I started to feel better. Whatever worries I had were put to the side, my outlook became a lot better. I remembered the one thing that I forgot to do, and that was center myself each day with Christ. On Thursday through the rest of the week, each morning I would get up and read the scriptures and pray. These two simple things helped me center myself spiritually. Just by simply taking some personal time and reading the scriptures and praying have my days been noticeably different for the better.

With all the demands of life and the world, it is easy to become off balance and distracted. Therefore, it is easy to push off the simple things like reading scriptures and praying till later when your mind is in a better place. However, before we know it has been a week or two and our days are barely even better than before. When we finally take the time to connect with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ by doing the simple things, we then can notice a positive change in our lives. It is this spiritual centering that helps us, and it needs to be done daily for it to truly to be effective.
